coron hideaway

when i was on days off, i went to coron palawan by myself.  none of my friends were available to join me for all were busy with work.  so i thought, it really doesn’t matter if i go alone, i have visited other places before as a lone traveller anyway.

i have been fascinated by palawan from the first time i was there nearly a year ago.  i visited puerto princesa then, and when i left the place i told myself that i will be back.  coron is just one of the islands in palawan that exudes the beauty of nature.  it offers a lot of tourist attractions, but my purpose on being at coron was simple: i want to laze and unwind.

i chose to stay at el rio y mar, a beachfront resort in san jose.

i was welcomed by the uber-friendly staff of el rio.  most of them had asked me the same question while i was staying at the resort which was – why was i alone?  imagine being in a place made perfect for lovers and honeymooners then here i am going solo?  i really cannot blame them of their curiosity!  lol!

i stayed in one of their native beachfront cabanas.

since there were only a few of us guests (a group of three couples from the states, and a german with his filipina wife and their kid) in the resort, meals were served ala carte, a choice of meat, poultry and seafood as a main dish was available and being a pescetarian, i chose the seafood that they served.  the dining area i think can occupy about fifty guests or more.

i also took a dip on their infinity pool that offers a great view of maricaban bay, even at dusk.

a view of the sunset from the veranda left me a moment of thanking god for the blessings he has given me, for my parents and my siblings that i cherish, for my few good friends who has been with me through the years and for keeping me and my co-workers safe at work.

.. next post: things to do at el rio!

*winks*

    • .. ayan di kasi sumama. haha. pag single occupancy, you’ll have to pay 50% more. for two kasi talaga packages nila e. kung babalik ako sa coron, meron sister resort yang el rio w/c is club paradise, i was able to tour around the island, ganda ng beach dun!

  2. ang ganda ganda naman ng hotel rob! is this in coron itself?

i’ve been to coron.. it’s my favorite in the philippines! super ganda!

    • .. nabasa ko yung post mo on coron grace, pero di nga lang ako nag-island hopping kasi ang mahal ng fee pag ako lang e, saka kakatamad pag asa el rio ka na. the resort is a few minutes from busuanga airport, sakay ng coaster bus then small boat.

  3. i love palawan and would definitely like to go back to el nido. i feel that we didn’t have enough, and i was cranky during our trip. coron is definitely a must-visit for me. thank you for the feature, and great photos btw.

    • .. welcome back in manila, sidney. the cabanas are really nice, do visit el rio when you get a chance. you’ll shoot great pictures (as always!) when you get there!

    • .. hehe. medyo mahal nga gael pag solo ka mag-coron, lalo na pag nag-island hopping ka. muntik ko na nga rin icancel yan lakad ko na yan, pero after the visit, it was really worth it.

  4. i have the perfect answer to the resort staffs’ query on why your were alone —

. . you didn’t ask our company. hehehe.

. . i love your photos, rob! oi, dumadami na ang commenters! 🙂

    • .. i actually told them i was broken-hearted: drama! haha! speaking about photos, i’m still saving money to purchase that olympus camera i wanted.

    • .. they offer off-peak discounted rates, virgo. when i was there i got a 3D2N package with full board a la carte meals for P15K only.

  5. hi rob, thank you for the positive review of el rio y mar resort. do come back with friends this time, we give further discounts for returnees! we’re currently offering promo rates until july 31 bookings, and we’ll be participating in the coming philippine travel mart in SMX convention center in september. we hope to see you again! 🙂
