cebu weekender

my ma and i spent a weekend in cebu island the last time i was on days off.  it was a first for both of us to visit the island and i have planned it in advance as a special treat for her.

1

after the flight from manila (also a ‘first’ for my ma where she was all quiet – i don’t think it scared her but i held her hand anyway!), we took a cab from the airport going to tune hotels, a budget accommodation found in the center of the city.

2

i have stayed in tune hotels in penang and bali.  this is how their cebu branch looks like from the inside.

3

at tune hotels, you only pay what you need!

4

you won’t need a 24 hour aircon specially when you will surely be outside touring the city most of the day, tune hotels gives you that choice of a 12 hour aircon less the price of a 24 hour.  anyway, there is still a ceiling fan that is free for use inside the room.

5

the room is clean with freshly laundered bedding.  water pressure in the shower was also good, i paid extra for the towels and toiletries.

6

the next day was a sunday and we heard mass in the basilica.  we passed by the cross of magellan which was near the church.

7

i think this painting depicts the spaniards’ introduction of christianity to the filipinos.

8

the marker found at the foot of the cross.  i never knew that the original cross (as claimed) was encased inside.

9

nearby was fort san pedro where my ma and i just walked going here coming from the basilica.

10

there was a small entrance fee (i already forgot how much!).

11

i walked around the fort which was small compared to the forts i visited in jaipur.

12

we then went back to tune hotels, checked out and took a cab to check-in at marco polo plaza.

13(1)

i booked a double room from their website where they have this tempting offer, the weekender promo.

13

this includes buffet breakfast for two and there was even a free havaianas slippers that we claimed at their gift shop.

14(1)

a grand beautiful flower arrangement at the lobby – and they were real!

14

after check-in, we were assisted by a bellman with our luggage to our room.

15

room was simple and worth the price.

16

furnitures was made of bamboo, rattan and abaca rope.

17

flat tv looks new and a small study was available in the room.

18

wi-fi was without charge (i hate it when i get charged for internet connection!), and the connection was good and no disruptions.

19

there is also a marco polo hotel in davao city, i hope to visit that too.

20

clean toilet and bath with marco polo signature toiletries.

21

this was the view from our window.

22

i wanted my ma to enjoy her ‘staycation’ and we were never interested to go out from the hotel so i decided that we take our dinner in the hotel’s restaurant, cafe marco.

30

after dinner i left my ma in our room to watch her favorite ‘teleseryes‘ as i checked the hotel’s other facilities.

31

i found out that they charge for sauna use which was located in their spa.

32

a well-equipped gym and a fitness personnel assists the guests.

33

i went outside to check their pool.  i actually took a dip to relax my tired muscles.

34

they also have a bar beside the pool.

35

i bought this ref magnet from their gift shop as a souvenir for me and my ma’s satisfied stay at marco polo plaza. 🙂

the exchange regency

there was this residence hotel that i stayed in for a night when i had my days off in manila last july.  it is situated in ortigas complex and the place itself was new.

Experience the modern comforts of home amid hotel convenience, only at The Exchange Regency Residence Hotel. Located at the heart of Ortigas Center, where shops, sights and sundry are just around the corner, we’ll provide you with warm and personalized service and a host of amenities that’ll truly make us the hotel you’ll call home.

Managed by Hospitality International, The Exchange Regency Residence Hotel is a 42-storey property developed by Nobleland Ventures that stands magnificently at the heart of the Ortigas Center skyline.

the lounge area looks simple with classic, contemporary furnitures.

i was given a room at the sixth floor.

tha hall way was typical for residential hotels.

the room i got was a deluxe with a queen-sized bed.

it has a work desk, a 32″ flat screen lcd tv and wireless internet.

a welcome note.

the clothes cabinet has a security box available inside.  laundry and pressing services is also availble with a fee.

the toilet and lavatory.  toiletries from crabtree and evelyn.

the shower area.

after a relaxing sleep i had my complimentary breakfast the next day at benassi. at the ground floor of the establishment.

the breakfast was basic (set menu), and i chose toast with spreads (butter and jelly) and scrambled eggs.

the coffee was great – something that i can recommend.

it was raining hard outside as i checked the swimming pool of the hotel at the third floor.

on the same floor is the fitness center with complete facilities.

the rate for a deluxe room is mid-range and i find it quite high if i compare it to other condotels in ortigas that i have been to.

exchange regency residence hotel . . the modern traveler’s choice.

ease and comfort at lancaster

lancaster hotel manila is a condotel located conveniently along shaw boulevard in mandaluyong city.  of all the condotels i have tried, this is one that i have returned to stay again due to its accessibility and affordable rates.

it is walking distance to the metro rail transit and nearby malls like sm megamall and rustan’s shangri-la plaza.  it might be difficult to get a taxi on rush hours considering the area is in shaw boulevard where there is expected traffic to crossing edsa.

though the hotel is not new, they have still maintained its rich amd modern furnishings.  here are the two room types i stayed in.

the one bedroom executive suite has an ample space to entertain guests.  internet is provided through LAN connection.  i just wonder why they still do not have wireless network in the rooms, anyway as long as i have a net connection it’s no problem for me.

the toilet and bath has available toiletries and is clean.  the bedroom is quite small but the bed and the sheets was comfy.

the studio type junior suite has the same functionality as the one-bedroom executive suite.

lancaster has mixed reviews at tripadvisor, but the thing is i have been to some hotels on the same rate that is far worst.  their breakfast buffet is average and service at the front desk may get slow sometimes (but a little follow-up will do).
